Waves II

I just completed Waves II, a piece inspired, not surprisingly, by my love of the ocean. The ocean, more precisely, Pensacola, is my favorite place to be: it’s where I feel most like myself. Unfortunately, this year our early summer trip was cancelled due to COVID. But a new trip is coming up shortly and I can’t wait to be on the sand as the sun comes up, coffee in one hand, my fishing pole in the other while I scan the waves for signs of fish with my dad.

Waves II started with heavy fabric wrapped around spacer bars. I drew on the fabric, changing the wave pattern as I went. It doesn’t matter how often I change the design because the entire field is filled with color. Satin stitches dominate, as usual, and are joined by a few clusters of French knots, and short stitches added in a somewhat of a brick pattern and some beads.
